Bio

Jaye Sablan is a genderqueer CHamoru poet and writer from Saipan and descends from the Katingting and Talu family clans. Her work surfaces themes of indigeneity, decolonization, and love as a pathway to social justice and collective liberation.

In addition to publishing her work, Jaye is interested in the intersection of poetry and the visual arts—as is evident in her collaborations with video, graphic, and mixed-media artists based in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. She is a self-taught poet and a first-gen college student who eventually earned an M.A. in Feminist Studies from the University of Washington.

Jaye lives and works in Seattle—the traditional lands and waters of the Coast Salish peoples, past, present, and future.

Last but not least, Jaye is an Aries and a total goofball who became politicized by a community of feminists/queers/bikepunks of color back in Portland, Oregon during the early 2000’s. She loves late ’80s and ’90s music and totally wore out her first cassette tape of Janet Jackson’s Control album when she was a kid.
